Face Offs & Cheap Shots (CU Hockey Book 2)

JACOBS: Over the past three years, my entire focus has been on hockey with a single goal: becoming team captain. However, the one obstacle in my way is TJ Beckett. Beck, as he is known, is irresponsible and lacking maturity. I have despised him since our freshman year when we first met. Despite my feelings towards him, the coaches seem to see something in Beck that I am unable to grasp, and they are unwilling to make a decision between the two of us. The position of team captain will ultimately be determined by a team vote. The team believes that in order for us to prove our worth, we must face a series of challenges that have nothing to do with hockey. These challenges are forcing Beck and me to work together, despite the fact that he remains as infuriating as ever.

BECK: I am completely puzzled as to why Christopher Jacobs harbors such animosity towards me, but quite frankly, I couldn’t care less. I enjoy pushing his buttons, but Jacobs really needs to learn to relax. I am fully confident in my ability to easily conquer these ridiculous challenges and spend my final year of hockey dominance on campus. Additionally, tormenting Jacobs along the way will simply be an added bonus. Though I find myself experiencing conflicting emotions towards him, I refuse to allow it to hinder my determination. When it comes to competition, I am fully committed, and nothing will stand in the way of me achieving victory.
