Ollie's Advice
Do not reveal your true self to strangers in public bathrooms, no matter how charming or sweet they may seem, or how willing they are to help.
My family believes that I cannot truly be happy unless I am open about my identity to the world. My past relationships and my unstable career in the NHL are proof of the consequences of staying in the closet. When a fake boyfriend offers a quick and easy solution to appease my family, I agree without even bothering to ask for his name.
Looking back, I really should have asked for his name.
Lennon's Advice
Make sure you introduce yourself properly.
To be fair, I didn't immediately recognize Ollie Strömberg. I typically cover football, not hockey.
I never expected to see him again, and he was never supposed to find out that I am a reporter. However, everything changes when my editor reassigns me to cover Ollie.
It's a lesson I should have learned by now. Things haven't changed since high school - jocks still dislike nerds, and athletes have a particular distaste for journalists, especially those who uncover their secrets.
Deke is a full-length MM novel with a Happy For Now/Happily Ever After ending and no cliffhangers.
